“Many people will walk in and out of your
life but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.” I’m not
perfect but I have great family and great friends around me. When I saw their
smile on their face, I feel perfect and forget my sadness, disappoinments. I
met some of them with the help of Love of Korea. Different colors, different
languages come together in Turkey the cultural bridge between Asia and Europe.
Without talking same language, we get close to each other. It’s so hard to
build a strong friendship by this way but after I met with Korean people, I saw
some similarities between our culture and Korean culture. 무궁화 꽂이 피었읍니다 (Mugunghwa ggoçi
piossıbnida) is tradition Koran game that I
learned how to play from the daughter of sonsengnim. It’s the same movements,
rules with a turkish game. Turkish tongue twister for this game is “Drum,
clarion one two three...” in turkish language. Discover new similarities is so
enjoyful.
Although Turkish people immigrated from Asia, Turkish culture is consist of
more elements from European culture than Asia but the bond between members of family and friend is the same with
Korean culture. Korean people continue to protect their culture, tradition and
put values on relationship such as family relationship, friendship and romantic
relationship.
The
spread of South Korean culture around the World has improved
with the help of Korean dramas, movies and K – pop bands. Thanks to volunteer
translators, we can reach the subtitles of Korean movies and drama so easily. A
few months ago, we apply to Turkish channels to watch Korean music videos and
one of them accept to make a programme which name is Asian YounGo. It’s the big
step for us to announce in Turkey. Korean love gather people together around
the World. When some products or
organizer conduct a survey, people from different countries give information to
each other. Korean movies and dramas
have different topics and include many culture information, history and the
characteristic feature of Korean people. For instance, Welcome to Dongmakgol,
people can get information about society during the war between South Korea and
North Korea. The war also affect to Korean theatre as we know from Dallae’s
story. Although people think that the end of the war, people become more happy
and stop to suffer from hunger, due to
their martyr, economic losses and restructure of country, they continue to
suffer from hunger and all children have badly affected such the little girl
who plays in Dallae’s story. In
addition, Korean dramas and movies sometimes tell people that their priorities
in the life has changed and they start to give importance to money and fame in
order to strong relationship, family bond and real love. They remind them the
value of all of them.
To
conclude, knowing Korean culture and
learning new things about Korean people is being part of my life. When i
conduct a research about Korean history(Geobukseon), korean fairy
tales and songs, I feel very happy. I’m co head of Asian Culture Club in my
university and we’re responsible of
introduce Korean culture and organization of Korean culture events every year.
I hope we can improve the relationship between Korean university and my
university. We apply to Korean Embassy and director of language unit of Bilkent
university to open Korean lectures. To introduce to brotherhood culture, we’ll
do our best!
